Bilder Jan van der Straet (1523–1605) – Fishing with Pelicans in India – Engraving (1596)
Beskrivning
"Anseris instar auem foelix habet India, Pisces" depicts a coastal scene where indigenous people in India utilize pelicans to catch fish. The engraving illustrates the practice of placing rings or cords around the necks of the birds to prevent them from swallowing their prey, allowing the hunters to retrieve the fish. This work is a copper engraving from the expansive series Venationes Ferarum, Avium, Piscium, published by Philips Galle in Antwerp. It serves as a visual record of sixteenth-century ethnographic interests and the diverse ways humans interact with the natural world.
