Bilder Jan van der Straet (1523–1605) – Allegory of River Fishing – Engraving (1596)
Beskrivning
"Lumine sic capitur noctu, sed sola nitente" features a personification of a river god holding a water jar and a cornucopia, accompanied by a female figure representing the moon, as men fish in the background. The engraving illustrates various fishing techniques, including angling and netting, set against a hilly landscape with architectural structures. This copper engraving is the final plate from the series Venationes Ferarum, Avium, Piscium, which was published by Philips Galle in Antwerp. The work combines mythological allegory with the practical observation of sporting activities typical of late Renaissance art.
