Ottomar Elliger the Younger was a Dutch painter and engraver of German descent who studied under Michiel van Musscher and the influential Gerard de Lairesse. He became a prominent historical painter in Amsterdam and later attained the position of court painter to the Elector of Mainz. Elliger is recognized for his mastery of classical composition and his ability to render dramatic narratives with anatomical precision and architectural grandeur. His contributions to seventeenth and eighteenth-century biblical illustration were extensive, providing high-quality designs for major theological publications. His legacy is defined by his synthesis of Dutch realism with the formal elegance of the French classical style.
