"Non tamen hoc speculum conquit amabile Regem..." depicts the biblical scene of Christ being mocked before Herod Antipas. The composition shows Jesus standing bound before the seated king within a grand classical loggia, surrounded by a dense crowd of soldiers, courtiers, and accusers. This engraving was published in Antwerp around 1580 as part of the celebrated series Passio, Mors et Resurrectio DN Iesu Christi, which documented the Passion of Christ. The work is noted for its Mannerist style, complex crowd dynamics, and the inclusion of contemporary 16th-century architectural and vestmental details.

Jan van der Straet, also known as Giovanni Stradano, was a versatile Flemish artist who spent most of his productive career in Italy, particularly in Florence working for the Medici family. He was a primary designer for tapestries, frescoes, and print series, often collaborating with the renowned printmaking workshops of the Galle family in Antwerp. His work bridged the artistic traditions of the Northern Renaissance and Italian Mannerism, characterized by dramatic storytelling and meticulous detail. He is widely recognized for his contributions to the iconography of the late 16th century, ranging from religious cycles to innovative depictions of contemporary science and hunting.
