Bilder Cornelis de Bruyn (1652–1727) – Views of Kom and Kashan – Iran – Engraving (1711)
Beskrivning
"Komm. Kasjan." presents two panoramic topographical views of the Persian cities of Kom (Qom) and Kashan. The upper scene illustrates the city of Qom with its distinctive domes and minarets situated against a backdrop of rugged mountains, while the lower scene depicts the walled city of Kashan nestled in a desert landscape at the foot of a mountain range. This copper engraving is from the work Reizen over Moskovie, door Persie en Indie, published in Amsterdam by Willem and David Goeree in 1711. The work provides a detailed visual record of the Safavid Empire and is noted for its accuracy in depicting the architecture and geography of the region as observed by the artist during his travels.
Cornelis de Bruyn was a Dutch painter and traveler who dedicated years to exploring and documenting the Levant, Russia, and Persia. He is celebrated for his commitment to drawing from life, ensuring that his illustrations reflected the true appearance of the monuments and landscapes he visited. His published journals were among the first to provide Europeans with authentic views of the interior of the Persian Empire and the ruins of Persepolis. De Bruyn’s work remains an essential primary source for the study of early modern travel and Middle Eastern history.
