This military map depicts the fortified encampment of Montreuil near the French coast, including topographic details such as dunes, roads, artillery positions, and coastline. It was engraved after a drawing by engineer Lécrivain during Marshal Ney’s command.
Ambroise Tardieu (1788–1841) was a prominent French cartographer, geographer, and engraver. He was known for his clarity, precision, and contribution to civil and military cartography during the Napoleonic and Restoration periods. His engravings were widely used in atlases, educational publications, and strategic military planning.
