"The Noisy Eagle, and the Long-tailed Eagle" illustrates two birds of prey perched on a weathered branch within a sparsely detailed natural landscape. This engraving is from the monumental encyclopedia Encyclopaedia Londinensis; or, Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, and Literature, published by John Wilkes in London in 1797. The series is celebrated for its extensive collection of high-quality copper engravings that documented diverse subjects from natural history to mechanics for a broad British audience during the Enlightenment.

John Wilkes was a prominent British publisher, bookseller, and stationer based in London. He is best known for compiling and publishing the Encyclopaedia Londinensis, a project that spanned nearly three decades and required the collaboration of numerous specialized artists and engravers. His work was instrumental in the dissemination of scientific and general knowledge during the late Georgian era.
