Marcus Elieser Bloch was a German physician and naturalist, widely regarded as one of the most important ichthyologists in history. He dedicated his career to the study of fish, culminating in his masterwork Allgemeine Naturgeschichte der Fische, which categorized hundreds of species from around the world.
