Beskrivning

This hand-colored copperplate engraving is a composite map sheet featuring four individual maps of Dutch reclaimed land, known as polders. The sections include De Zype and De Wlrei, displayed with intricate details of land division, waterways, and infrastructure. The map is characteristic of the large, detailed folio maps produced during the height of the Dutch Golden Age of Cartography.

Johannes Janssonius was a highly influential Dutch cartographer, engraver, and publisher who worked in Amsterdam during the 17th century. He is best known for publishing his expanded edition of the Mercator-Hondius atlas, eventually titled the Atlas Novus, which rivaled the production of his contemporary, Joan Blaeu.
