Beskrivning

This hand-colored engraving is a detailed regional map covering the historic provinces of southwestern France, including Guyenne, Gascogne, Périgord, Béarn, and Navarre. The map displays the topography, major cities, rivers, and political divisions of the area, with boundaries delineated by hand-coloring in green, yellow, and red. The map's orientation is North at the top, and it includes a scale bar marked with Lieües de Gascogne (Gascony Leagues) in the lower left corner. It was published in the mid-18th century as part of a larger European atlas.

Georges-Louis Le Rouge was a highly prolific French cartographer, engraver, and engineer who operated a prominent cartographic publishing house in Paris during the mid-to-late 18th century. He is best known for producing numerous comprehensive atlases, military maps, and collections of detailed city plans, based on the latest geographical observations, solidifying his reputation as a leading figure in French Enlightenment cartography.
