Jacques-Nicolas Bellin was a French hydrographer and cartographer who was appointed Ingénieur Hydrographe de la Marine (Hydrographic Engineer of the Navy). He was renowned for the accuracy and clarity of his charts and maps, which became the standard for mariners and explorers throughout the 18th century, documenting colonial interests across the globe.
